The Brunel Centre in Swindon, managed by FI Real Estate Management (FIREM), is celebrating its shortlisting for the prestigious Purple Apple Marketing Awards by the British Council for Shopping Centres (BCSC).
The focus for the entry was the Swindon town centre Vintage and Retro Festival held in March and hosted by the Centre over two days. The Festival is now in its second year.
According to Brunel’s Marketing Manager Jane Stewart the first event not only increased footfall by 20 per cent but also sales. “The event proved to be of enormous interest to customers old and new and retailers reported an increase in sales year on year. Our customers loved it so it has become a regular date on the town’s calendar.”
Thanks to the support of a range of vintage and community groups, the Festival consists of displays of vintage cars and motorbikes, vintage stalls and buskers outside the Centre and fashion shows, makeup demonstrations and dance teach-ins plus an evening of live music inside the Centre.
The BCSC Purple Apple Marketing Awards are the only awards which recognise and reward effective shopping and town centre marketing within the UK retail property sector. They acknowledge high standards and reassure retailers and other interested parties that shopping centre marketing is effective and provides excellent value for money. They also reflect how marketers have to constantly adjust to changing times, ensuring their budget goes further and works harder, driving retailer sales and harnessing new initiatives including digital marketing.
Concluded Bernard Ferris, FIREM’s Head of UK Shopping Centres: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for these awards which demonstrate the hard work that my team at Brunel puts in on the ground to support not only our own retailers but those across Swindon’s town centre. Brunel has a major commitment to the town and these events demonstrate that to the full.”
Brunel occupies over half of the town centre’s retail area with 550,000 sq ft of retail space and it is the only covered shopping centre in that area. It has over 100 retailers, cafes and restaurants with anchor stores of House of Fraser outlet, Boots, Marks & Spencer and Sainsburys as well as a number of local, independent stores.
