FI Real Estate (FIREM) is working closely with Swindon Academy to promote a greater understanding of the wide variety of career opportunities available to students in the retail sector through Brunel Shopping Centre’s management team and its retailers.

The Centre held its first ‘Work Inspiration’ day for 19 students from North Swindon School who had expressed career interests in specific areas of retail and the visit was tailored to include these as well as promoting other opportunities in the sector which is Britain’s largest employer providing 2.8M jobs in the UK.

Jane Stewart, FIREM’s Deputy General Manager and Marketing Manager of The Brunel, believes that this type of initiative is vital to the retail sector.  She said: “Most people, when asked what a career in retail entails, might respond ‘working on a checkout or filling a shelf’.  Obviously many people do work in these roles, but the retail sector can also offer long and progressive careers for thousands of professionals across so many disciplines and we need to promote the diversity of opportunity strongly to young people.

“Brunel is a major employment ‘hub’ for Swindon with its 100 retailers and new opportunities in the leisure sector opening up.  We want to continue to work with Swindon Academy to educate and inspire local students to consider retail as a real career option for the future.”
