The Brunel Centre in Swindon is one of only three shopping centres in the UK to be awarded a silver medal accreditation in The Green Achiever Scheme which encourages businesses in all sectors to boost their green credentials and reduce environmental impact.  The Centre, managed by FI Real Estate Management ( FIREM), achieved the accolade at its first attempt.

To gain the award, Centre Manager Steve Fawke and his team, implemented a number of new measures to improve and enhance its operations, combining energy and water saving initiatives as well as waste segregation and removal to Green Achiever standards.

Close collaboration with the Centre’s tenants also encouraged them to introduce waste segregation and energy reduction initiatives within their own premises so it was a Centre-wide effort to achieve ‘green’.

The next step, according to Steve Fawke, is to ‘Go for Gold’.  He commented: “The team at FIREM are delighted with this accreditation, but now our aim is to introduce even more ‘green’ initiatives to reach the highest level.”

Deborah Cairns, operations manager at E4environment and with specific responsibility for the Green Achiever Scheme, added:

“The FIREM team at the Brunel Centre are demonstrating a conviction to enhancing their green status which not only sets a standard for others to follow but also ultimately results in cost savings for the Centre and its retailers too.”
